Join us at Johnson Ranch Open Space for a morning of creek restoration where you can learn how to build like a beaver!  This is a great opportunity for families, friends, neighbors, and the like!

This half day workshop will be an educational and interactive experience into process-based restoration techniques, accessible to community members of all ages and experience levels. This will be a hands-on introduction into the “how and why” of beaver dam analogs on the Central Coast.

What to expect:

  • Tour of Dry Creek, now in its third year of restoration and home to 30 Beaver Dam Analogs (BDAs)
  • Hands on building experience: participants will learn how to build a BDA using hand tools and all natural materials
  • Activities include trimming branches, shoveling soil and lifting rocks
  • Participation in building a BDA is not required to attend
  • Note: the creek will be dry, so you do not need to prepare for mud or water!

What you’ll need:

  • Water
  • Sun protection
  • Sturdy work boots 
  • Long work pants
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Snacks (optional)

Registered volunteers will receive a confirmation email

from City staff a few days in advance with more details.
