Volunteers requested for the City of San Luis Obispo Utilities Department's first-ever Pumpkin Smash Event. Intended to be a fun, eco-friendly community event aimed at promoting organic waste diversion by composting post-Halloween holiday pumpkins, volunteers will play critical roles in helping attendees toss their pumpkins, educating the public on sustainable practices to broaden awareness for the City's goals and efforts to date, and work with staff to ensure the event runs smoothly.
This volunteer role is great for students (14+), groups, and community members looking to get involved
and meet like-minded people who want to have a smashing good time!
Volunteer Duties (2 volunteers/station, rotating throughout the event)
- Lawn Games & Event Entrance Assistants
- Pumpkin Smash Assistants
- RecycleRight Waste Station
- Compost Giveaway Volunteer
Expectations of Volunteers:
- Enthusiasm for sustainability and community involvement.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fun, outdoor setting.
- Comfortable interacting with the public and answering questions.
- Must be able to lift light objects (up to 20 pounds) and stand for extended periods.
