Who:
This role is best suited for community members who enjoy and excel at customer service and can relay information clearly and effectively to a wide demographic of drivers.
What:
Help the public exit downtown parking garages with ease. Guided by City staff, volunteers will help drivers insert their payment at stationary exit kiosks. Support the City's Parking Services Team by:
- managing vehicle flow in downtown parking garages
- ensuring garage visitors have a positive and clear experience exiting the garage via the payment process
- avoiding vehicle backup and stalled exiting
When:
Thursday and Friday evenings are a busy time for downtown San Luis Obispo. Shifts are from 5:30 PM to 9 PM and volunteers are asked to serve the entirety of the shift, ideally committing to a minimum of 3 months with 4 shifts/month. Volunteers are welcomed to serve both Thursday and Friday evenings weekly if they desire.
Where:
Volunteers will be stationed at one garage for the entirety of their shift. The meeting location and their staff point of contact will be communicated to confirmed volunteers via email from the Volunteer Program in advance on their scheduled shift. Downtown parking garage locations:
- 842 Palm Street Garage
- 919 Palm Street Garage
- 871 Marsh Street Garage
Additional Information:
- Safety first! All volunteers will be provided with a high visibility safety vest and identification to be worn at all times on their shift and collected once the shift is over.
- After serving three times, volunteers will be provided with a t-shirt their encouraged to wear while volunteering with the City.
- Volunteers are expected to log service hours on Engage SLO after each shift.
- All volunteers must register on the City of San Luis Obispo’s volunteer portal, Engage SLO, and commit to serving at least 4 hours per month for a 3-month timespan, unless otherwise agreed upon by the Volunteer Program.
